Jennifer Bonner came through first thing this morning with some trail distances:

I don’t have exact alignment for the Bentonville sections or the location of the actual trailhead at the high school, but I can estimate that your description allows folks to travel about 7,700 feet in Bentonville and 10,200 feet in Rogers. This means folks can go approximately 3.4 miles ONE WAY from the Bentonville High School to the west end of the trail on the Cross Church property behind the Kraft building at 5509 West Pinnacle Pointe Drive.

She has given us one-way, so double a segment for the round trip. Best parking is at the High School or the Horsebarn trailhead. Or you can usually find a spot in private parking lots at Kraft or elsewhere.

With installation of the railings, the bridge at 28th & Med Ctr Pkway has been opened.
So this week has seen completion of a long continuous trail section!

You can start at Bentonville High School trailhead and go south to 28th St., then to Walton Blvd at Krispey Kreme, then to Riviera in Rogers and the Horsebarn Recreational Trailhead, then all the way along Horsebarn to Dr. Mertz’s clinic, then down the hill and past the Arvest Bank, then continue across the creek and turn west on the edge of the Cross Church campus, and continue along the creek to the Kraft Foods office building in Pinnacle Hills. (Thanks to Betty Evans for reminding us of that last part.)

Maybe Jennifer could estimate or scale the total distance. It certainly sets a record for the Rogers-Bentonville link-up.

Wednesday, just before 8 a.m. at the 28th St. crossing – South-bound pedestrian signal base is installed and the whole area poured, except. . . Note the rather large gap to the right in the photo. The crew is clearly grooming it for something. Bet it must be for another one of those yellow pedestrian “ramps,” facing west. And there were actually signs of what could become a signal-light base across Med Center Pkwy. Quite a deal.

Early Wednesday morning – crew says they’re still waiting for the other half of the galvanized pipe railings needed for the north-bound ramp. Likely to arrive yet today or tomorrow. Pan right to see the rest. A bit of landscaping going on meanwhile.

The whole corner area has now been poured. As expected, the crew did install another yellow crossing ramp. The new one is aimed west, across Med Center Pkwy. You can detect some dirtwork on the other side, too, where the receiving ramp will materialize.

As of Friday afternoon, guard railings were ready, but had not yet been mounted, on the bridge ramp leading to the northbound trail (on the other side of 28th St.).

Saturday morning, 5/14/11
Pan to see newly installed base for pedestrian signal light on the south (near) side of 28th St. Crew is finishing up the mirror image on the north side. Underground wiring has also been installed. Let’s hope weather permits pouring those final access walkways and erecting the signals soon.

Job is well along; they’ve even installed a bollard.
The backhoe operator is piling up earth to level the sides of the trail.
A frantic mother robin kept buzzing the photographer; must be a nest around there somewhere.

2) Next attraction on the southbound trail – after the nearby Med Center Pond – is Horsebarn Trailhead in Rogers, shown here open and active.
